CBD oil is now popularly being used for curing many ailments. This oil is popularly accepted as a potential treatment for fibromyalgia. Although there has not been much research on this subject to stand as proof, there has been some but those are quite promising.
However, there is still a crowd of people, who are not aware of what CBD oil really is and how does it work. A lot of people hesitate to try this because of the controversy of medical marijuana. Well, in this article we shall be discussing what this oil is all about and how can it assist in curing fibromyalgia.
What Is CBD Oil?
Abbreviated for cannabidiol, CBD oil is a derivative of the cannabis plant from where we get marijuana. However, you will not get high with CBD oil as it has no psychoactive properties. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the substance that gets you high by the consumption of marijuana. But, cannabis that grows from hemp is a rich source of CBD than THC.
CBD is now being used for a lot of medical purposes for which you can find many claims online. Some already done researches and some ongoing ones, make the claims to be somehow true and thus CBD oil is a natural possibility for curing many of the health issues including chronic pain and inflammation, epilepsy in kids, bipolar disorders, insomnia, multiple sclerosis, inhibiting cancerous tumor’s growth and many other such. But sadly, even after such a long term of research, CBD oil is not FDA approved.
Research for Fibromyalgia
According to a survey conducted in 2016, it was concluded that there was not enough proof to recommend any treatment based on cannabis for treating fibromyalgia or other rheumatic conditions. However, there are several reasons why this will get future attention.
- A lot of people in the United States face the pain epidemic, and fibromyalgia is one of the main causes of that. The treatments available currently aren’t good enough to cure the suffering completely. And therefore, there’s an enormous financial incentive to search for something that is a better alternative to relieve their pain.
- Opioids, which are drugs for relieving pain, very often cause opioid addiction or overdose epidemic. And the studies suggest that when marijuana was legalized in several states, the opioid prescription dropped. This way, many doctors prescribed CBD as a safer alternative for relieving pain.
Moreover, many scientists are motivated for further studies, as they consider that CBD is believed to relieve pain, insomnia, anxiety, and inflammation. And all of these are significant symptoms of fibromyalgia.
Research in 2017 suggested that CBD is a possible way to decrease the activity of glia brain cells that cause central sensitivity syndrome, migraine, irritable bowel syndrome, which are other causes of fibromyalgia. Endocannabinoid deficiency is also involved in fibromyalgia which makes cannabis products a promising treatment.
Thus, we can conclude that CBD oil is helpful in relieving various symptoms of fibromyalgia – like anxiety, pain, insomnia as well as inflammation.
